American wrestlers are no strangers to politics with several high profile names pursuing a career change after hanging up their spandex. Many have attempted to run for various electoral positions including Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler, Scott Steiner, Rhyno and most notably Jesse ‘The Body’ Ventura who won the race for Governor of Minnesota in 1998. Now it’s time for ‘The Big Red Machine’ Kane to try his hand.
Kane, real name Glenn Jacobs, has been wrestling since 1992 and joined the then WWE in 1995 where he has been body-slamming opponents for an incredible 23 years. His character was portrayed as a 7-foot tall monster who wore a mask due to a back-story of being burned as a child. In 2003 a stipulation following a defeat to Stone Cold Steve Austin led to him being ‘unmasked’.
Since cutting back on his WWE appearances Jacobs has been focusing on his political career, winning a Republican Primary race yesterday and will now face-off against Democrat Linda Haney in the next election on August 2nd in a bid to become Mayor of Knox County Tennessee. Judging by his trail of destruction in the ring he looks like a guy who could really get things done.
