Snow Spirit – How Communities Helped Battle The Beast

Most of us will have returned to work and normal life today following the weather onslaught stretching back to last week. Some areas remain badly affected with people still unable to leave their homes however one thing has really shone through and helped battle the Beast From The East, community spirit.

While there were scenes of utter disgust with the demolition and looting of a German supermarket, this was unequivocally overshadowed by the real heroes’, our nation’s people.

Local councils did their best to clear as many main roads as possible but housing estates proved to be a more difficult task. Scores of residents armed themselves with shovels and set to work for hours on end.

Requests on social media to clear roads for the elderly, sick or those in need of urgent transport were accepted without hesitation. An honourable mention goes to the doctors, nurses and frontline staff who are vital to keeping the country running making the often arduous trek to work, mostly on foot and in freezing conditions. Even those in the emergency services needed a dig out themselves as seen below in Tallaght.

This is what you call community spirit . This is the real tallaght

Residents proudly posted before and after shots of their driveways and estates finally clear after hours of hard graft.

A Rapid Response Vehicle from the National Ambulance Service was retrieved from beneath the snow by these Tallaght locals.

There are many more examples of the true community spirit from the past week, too many to post but they know who they are. We would urge anyone who can help those still in need to do so where possible. There are still people in need. Keep an eye out for local community groups and alerts pages such as the one below.
