Sahara Force India F1 Team Principal Dr Vijay Mallya believes that his outfit proved their doubters wrong over the course of the 2017 Formula One season.
The Silverstone based outfit finished the season as best of the rest in the constructors championship behind the top three of Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull Racing. For the second season in succession the outfit, who operate on roughly two thirds of the budget that the top three teams do.
Speaking at Sunday’s Autosport Awards, Mallya said that he was delighted that despite the limited resources he team have at their disposal they were still able to finish the season in fourth place for the second year in a row, punching well above their weight.
The team ended the year on 187 points and were well ahead of Williams, Renault and McLaren in the constructors championship.
The team have retained both Sergio ‘Checo’ Perez and Esteban Ocon for the 2018 season and despite their sometimes volatile relationship both on and off track during 2017, Force India will be hoping the pairing can bring them even better results next season.
