Queen fans finally got a glimpse of the upcoming biopic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ following the release of the first trailer. The film focuses on the rise of the British rock group who formed in London in 1970. American actor Rami Malek takes on the role of charismatic frontman Freddie Mercury with the supporting cast of Ben Hardy as drummer Roger Taylor, Gwilym Lee as lead guitarist Brian May and Joseph Mazzello as Bass player John Deacon.
Rami Malek is best known for his role as Elliot Alderson in the U.S series Mr Robot along with supporting roles in the ‘Night At The Museum’ trilogy and Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2. The lead role of Freddie was originally to be played by Sacha Baron Cohen, however, Roger Taylor suggested his comedic performances as Ali G made him too well-known. Cohen also disagreed with the surviving members of the band over several elements of the film and his inclusion was scrapped.
The film’s production also saw a change of director with Bryan Singer sacked following several no-shows on set and clashes with Malek and others. Dexter Fletcher took over the reigns from Singer as director in December 2017. Bohemian Rhapsody is set for release in November 2018.
