Straight blast gym, run by Conor McGregor’s MMA coach, John Kavanagh, is running a free weekly BJJ class for women, starting this Saturday at 11 am.
The headquarter branch of the ‘SBG’ MMA gyms in Ireland, located on the Naas Road, made the decision to run the classes after the tragic recent attacks on women In Dublin, such as the cases of Jastine Valdez and Ana Kriegel.
Kavanagh broke the news in a recent post on Instagram and later again on facebook. He stated that the class will be free, every Saturday at the same time, and not to worry if you miss this weekend as “you can start any time.”
He also said to “feel free to drop in and watch one if you’re considering taking it up” and to come down and meet Purple belt in Jiu-Jitsu, Jaqueline Almeida, who will be teaching the class “and see if you enjoy it.”
Almeida wrote on Instagram that the class is “free to any levels” and also for any women from other gyms who want to “supplement their training, I’ll be happy to coach you!”
Kavanagh explained his decision for the introduction of the free class within the post saying, “In light of recent, horrific attack in Dublin, by a deranged individual, we feel the need to do something to give women a fighting chance.”
